Exported Effect Size Limits in Spark AR Studio

We've set some limits on package sizes for effects exported from Spark AR Studio, to help make sure effects perform well across different devices.

Effect size

You'll need to check the effect size for individual files across all 3 device types - iOS, Android and Older Android.

It’s easy to do this - just click the export symbol in the toolbar. You’ll see a window that looks like this:

For each device type, you'll see:

  • An On Device size - this is the size of the effect when it’s unzipped, on the device. As long as you get the Download size within limits, the On Device size usually will be too.
  • A Download size - this is the size of the zipped up effect. This is the file size you need to check meets our limits.

If you're submitting an effect to Facebook the Download size should be under 2MB for each device type. The Download size can't be bigger than 10MB.

For Instagram, the Download size must be 4MB or less.

Bundle size

The ‘bundle’ is the .arexport file that's exported on to your computer. It must be 40MB or smaller.

It contains three .arfx files. These are the three versions of your effect - one for each device type.

It also contains an .arprojpkg file. This is the Spark AR Studio project, with all the assets you’ve added, zipped into a single file. The addition of this file means the bundle size is generally bigger than the combined total of each version of the effect you’ll have seen when you exported your project.
