We believe augmented reality is a whole new creative medium. Exploring its full potential will demand entirely new ways of thinking about how the physical and digital can combine, which is why today we’re introducing the Spark AR Design Guidelines: a new resource intended to help creators, at any level, to conceive and design new AR experiences.
We created these guidelines by compiling insights from our own AR (and VR) products, plus some of what we’ve learned working with creators, brands and industry experts all over the world.
We’ve looked at the AR design challenge from a number of angles. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing blog posts with excerpts from the guidelines, including: considerations for how to introduce new users to AR, ways to think about spatial design, as well as a deep dive into best practices for UI and user controls. But if you can’t wait for those, you can download the Spark AR Design Guidelines today and start using them to help shape and inform your next AR idea.
We’re still on the frontier of uncovering the full extent of what AR can do. While we hope the guidelines will help creators work through some of the challenges of designing new types of virtual experiences, they’re just a starting point – and certainly not a set of rules. We’re looking forward to learning about the best ways to design for this new medium with you, our incredible creator community, and building on the guidance we’ve begun to compile here.
As we say at Facebook, “this journey is 1% finished”. We can’t wait to see what you build next.
