On September 14th, we launched the Spark AR Cyberware Challenge, one of our largest cash prize competitions of the year. For this competition, we invited creators from all over the world to make effects inspired by the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, and compete for their chance to win more than $700,000 USD in cash prizes.
Over four weeks, thousands of effects were submitted, several of which we showcased last week in our community creator gallery. Today, we’re excited to finally name our 3 overall winning creators, plus our 10 panel picks.
These talented creators won the overall competition based on the total daily points that their effects earned — our congratulations to Florencia, Christofer and Manuel. Here are just a few samples of the effects they submitted to the competition:
In addition to our overall winners, we also picked 10 effects for our panel’s choice prizes ($20,000 USD each). To help make these selections, we brought together an expert panel of creative judges from the Spark AR and CD Projekt RED teams to evaluate the top 200 entrants, using a weighted scoring system for craftsmanship, originality, creativity, and how well each entry used the competition theme. A big congrats to all of our panel’s choice winners!
In addition to these winners, hundreds of creators won cash prizes in the overall competition, and 30 creators earned $1,000 USD each in daily cash prizes.
A special thanks to Paige Piskin, Isabel Palumbo and Eugene Soh for hosting our competition workshops. These workshops were attended by over 800 creators worldwide, and in case you missed them, we have full-length recordings freely available to anyone that would like to learn how these experts created their competition effects.
Our congrats again to all the creators that participated in the Cyberware Challenge! We’re inspired by your craft and creativity, and we’re listening to your feedback too. We’re making adjustments to how we run contests in the future to ensure they’re the best possible experience for you — in fact, our next competition may be coming up sooner than you expect!
