In this tutorial you'll learn how to use Spark AR Studio add retouching. It's worth learning how to create a basic mask that tracks a face, first.
Download the sample content to follow along. If you open the finished effect, you'll see the effect you're going to work with is a flower crown.
Open the unfinished version in the sample content folder. As you can see, there's already a flower crown in the scene.
Retouching is made up of 2 parts: a face mesh and a retouching material.
To add a face mesh, right-click on the face tracker in the Scene tab, select Insert and then select Face Mesh.
You should now see a face mesh in the Scene tab and tracking the face in the Viewport.
Now your face mesh is in the scene, go to the Inspector panel and click + next to Material. Then, double-click the material you've created to inspect its properties.
Spark AR Studio has several built-in shaders. There's a specific type of shader for retouching. Find this by clicking the arrows next to Shader Type and selecting Retouching from the menu.
You'll see an option for Skin Smoothing under Shader Properties. You can experiment with the sliders until the retouching material looks the way you want it to.
For this effect, we're going to change Skin Smoothing to 83%.
You should preview skin smoothing on your mobile device using the Spark AR Player app to make sure the result is as expected.
You can also add the smoothing effect to the overall scene. To do this, check the box next to Fullscreen. The background should now be slightly blurred and softened.
