Submitting Effects to Spark AR Hub

Once you’re happy with your effect, you can submit it to Spark AR Hub to be published. Effects can either be published to Facebook or Instagram.

Before people can use your effect, it'll be reviewed to make sure it follows:

This usually takes a couple of days, but can take up to a week (excluding weekends).

Before you submit an effect

Before submitting an effect, you should check that you have all the assets and files you need for the platform where you're uploading the effect. Instagram, Facebook and Facebook ads each have different requirements you'll need to meet.

For Instagram effects, you'll need:

  1. To have created an effect icon and chosen a name for your effect.
  2. To have checked your effect meets our policies and guidelines.
  3. A video of your effect being used - find out more about our standards for this video.
  4. To choose a category for your effect.
  5. To check these extra guidelines and best practices, to make sure your effect is approved.

For Facebook ads effects, you'll need:

  1. A name for your effect.
  2. To have checked your effect meets our policies and guidelines.

For Facebook effects, you’ll need:

  1. To have created an effect icon and chosen a name for your effect.
  2. To have checked your effect meets our policies and guidelines.
  3. A video of your effect being used.

Submitting effects

To submit an effect:

  1. In AR Studio, click Upload in the toolbar or File > Upload.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you've previously submitted the effect and it's been rejected for reasons other than the file itself (example: for its icon), you won't be able to upload it directly from AR Studio. Instead, you'll need to export it and follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Spark AR Hub.
  2. Click Publish an Effect in the left sidebar.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you ever want to save your effect submission as a draft and submit it later, you can click Save in the top right corner.

Selecting a platform

When you’re uploading an effect, you’ll be asked to select the platform where you'll publish it.

This is where you’ll choose whether your effect will appear in the Facebook camera, the Instagram camera or as part of a Facebook Augmented Reality (AR) ad.

Note: You'll only see the Facebook Ads option when you select a Page as the effect Owner.

Scheduling and targeting

All effects are available to the public once they've been reviewed. To control the publication date and time of your effect and the length of time it's available for, you can add scheduling details when you upload it.

Targeting for Instagram

To help your effect reach the right audience on Instagram, you can add keywords to it during the upload process.

Targeting for Facebook

You can choose whether you want your Facebook effects to be visible Everywhere or in Specific locations only.

To limit your effect to specific locations, click in the bar above the map and search for specific countries, states, regions, cities or postal codes.

You can either Include or Exclude a location, depending on how you want to target your audience. Click the arrow next to Include or Exclude to switch from one to the other.
